The 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NTP) has entered its fourth day of deliberations where by various speakers continued to call for the adherence to the Treaty.
NPT Review Conference which started on Monday, here, at the United Nations. States parties are evaluating the implementations on the Treaty’s provisions since 2010, and identify the areas and means through which further progress can be made.
The Deputy Permanent Representative of The United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, Ambassador Ramadhan Winy is leading the Tanzanian Delegations to this Conference.
The Non- Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons is a landmark international treaty whose objective is to prevent the prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote co-operation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and to further the goals of achieving nuclear disarmament in general and complete disarmament. The NPT represents the only binding commitment in a multilateral treaty to the goal of nuclear disarmament by nuclear-weapon States.
The Review Conference is expected to, amongst others to consider a number of issues, including: universality of the Treaty; nuclear disarmament; including specific practical measures; nuclear non- proliferation; including compliance with the Treaty provisions, the promoting and strengthening of safeguard, measures to advance the peacefully use of nuclear energy, safety and security, regional disarmament and non-proliferation and the implementation of the 1995 resolution on the middle East.
Addressing the Conference on behalf of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Ramadhan Winy said. Tanzania believes that those who ascribe to the goals of the NPT, nuclear and non-nuclear weapon States alike, need to do more to demonstrate to the non-State parties and the strayed, that NPT remains the only viable way towards nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
He further stated that Tanzania believes in actions not pronouncements that would yield the eagerly anticipated goals of the universalization of the NPT. TO READ MORE CLICK HERE
