MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE
Late Prof. Jwani Mwaikusa

The Vice Chancellor Professor Rwekaza Mukandala expresses shock and deep grief at the sudden and untimely death of Prof. Jwani Mwaikusa of the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law (formerly Faculty of Law), which occurred reportedly after he had been assaulted by an armed gang at his residence in SalaSala, late on July 14th, 2010. He is survived by his widow and their four children.
   On behalf of the Management, the Vice Chancellor sends solemn condolences to the spouse of the late Prof. Mwaikusa, his entire family and friends, the Dean of the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law, colleagues and the University of Dar es Salaam family in its entirety. Prof. Mukandala prays for strength and calm at this moment of deep grief.
     Prof. Jwani Mwaikusa joined the University of Dar es Salaam in July, 1986 as Assistant Lecturer in the then Faculty of Law. Before that date he had been a State Attorney and Assistant Lecturer at the IDM, Mzumbe. In subsequent years and decades the late Mwaikusa rose through the ranks, and was in July 1999 promoted to the status of Associate Professor of Law.
     His distinguished services at the University of Dar es Salaam include Headship of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law (three different triennia including the current one), membership of the University of Dar es Salaam Legal Aid Committee (1988-1992), and Chairmanship of the same committee (1992). He has also been the Lead Counsel for the Defence, UN-International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (2007 to-date) and Chairman of the Centre for Media Studies, Research and Networking (2002 to-date). The late Prof. Mwaikusa has published numerous articles and book chapters on a wide range of subjects. He has also been a good poet.
