The Ambassador visited the group today, December 11, 2009 to mark the successful completion of an American-Tanzanian business development partnership. Using a 13 million Tsh/-grant provided by the Ambassador’s Self Help Fund, the Upendo Women’s Group purchased a mechanized soap manufacturing and packing machine from the University of Dar es Salaam’s engineering department. The U.S. grant has enabled the Upendo Women’s Group to modernize the soap production operation and gave Kimara residents access to a high-quality, low-cost washing soap.
