President Jakata Kikwete explains a point about the State House in Dar es salaam to members of the German Parliament's Budgetary Committee that paid a courtesy call on him today February 13, 2013. The State House, originally built by the Germans in 1891, was first occupied by the first German Governor, Julius Von Soden, which at the time was used as the Governor’s palace. When Tanganyika became a British colony, the state house was called the Government House and it was rebuilt in 1922 when first British Governor Horace Byatt took over. The building has a special architectural quality with historic value.
